Anoxic

Sleep.

I want to

sleep.

I’m so

tired.

I’m tired of hearing

about other people’s

demons.

And I’m tired of hearing

from my

own.

I’m tired of

anxiety and

depression.

I’m tired of being

afraid.

Afraid of people

and their

judgement.

I want a rest.

A break

from the world

and the sorrow

and

other people

killing

one another.

I’m tired of seeing

the cruelty of this world.

I’m so tired,

and it pains me–

the knowledge that

I will never rest.

Nora

By Renée

Everyday is one you will never get back.

Dwell on that for a second.

You will NEVER get any days back.

I don’t mean to make you depressed;

all I mean to do is make you realize your opportunities.

Just appreciate what you have, what you can do, what you can experience, what you can feel.

Instead of wishing away our time;

appreciate touch,

sight,

smell,

taste.

No matter your opinion on it,

acknowledge everything around you.

People.

Nature.

Poetry.

The world.

Appreciate the passage of time.

You will never get it back.

One day you will be gone.

Instead of wasting your time

in dread of it passing,

live.

This Faded Picture

April 25, 2018 by szachik@pvs.org 1 Comment

By Shelby Armor

This faded picture is all I have left of my childhood,

the simple days of playing outside and enjoying the company of friends.

No longer do I look at the world with gleaming eyes,

instead my eyes are faint outlines of what I used to be–

Smudged fingerprints on childhood paintings

and once radiant bundles of energy reduced to this,

Reduced to working in a dim office and

depending on coffee for the energy I once had.

I’m no longer who I used to be,

but I never noticed those years slipping away from me.

An Obsession

April 25, 2018 by szachik@pvs.org 3 Comments

By Olive Yew (I love you)

We,

as humans,

become obsessed.

We obsess over

the things we love,

and sometimes,

the things we hate.

In our obsessions,

we fail to notice

the people

who obsess

over us.

So,

I just want you to

know

that I am obsessed.

With you.

But.

You are obsessed

with

someone

else.

As many PVS students already know, on Tuesday, April 24, Palm Valley will be celebrating Portable Poetry Day. Essentially, the students will celebrate by wearing a word on themselves in some way. If you need a couple of ideas for words, check below the poster for a few interesting words that might just tickle your fancy.

In the absence of

time.

Unaccompanied by

fate.

Not having the use or benefit of

magic.

Lacking

experience

Short of

patience.

Deprived of

stability.

In need of

direction.

Wanting

accomplishment.

Needing

support.

Requiring

humility.

In circumstances in which the desired action does not happen,

write.

Alice

By Sue Doe Nimbly

i walked into love,

willingly.

you did lure me;

you did pull on my heart,

but i came on my own accord.

there was no plummet–

no blind stumbling.

i walked in with my head held high,

with silent and determined strides.

to all of this you remained

unaware.

you were immersed someplace else.

now

i close my eyes…

i rip out my heart…

and walk out

just as quietly as i walked in.

Ignify

By Renée

lately the world seems to be on its head.

in fact, that is how it has always seemed. we always have our

visors pulled over our

eyes. there we try to hide

from all our progress, which we deny, but we must realize that we

occupy a great time to be alive.

right now is all that we will ever

have.

apparently it is becoming harder and harder to see that.

perspective is what we need to solve the

problems that our beautiful world has. we need to be

involved. we, all of us,

need to care. it is

essential to stop being

squeamish about the problems that we have all allowed. we need to

stop, care and act.

Excisus

By Tahra Dactyl

Some interruptions are okay.

Like when you’re talking at a restaurant

and your waitress brings your food,

or when you’re bored and alone,

and you get a call from your favorite person,

or when you are at a doctor’s office,

and your name gets called.

But it is certainly not okay

When you interrupt my life

with your sweet words,

and the way that your smile reaches your eyes,

and how you know exactly what to do to make me feel better,

and the way you talk with your hands,

and when you sometimes mix up your words,

and all of the lies,

and deceit,

and the way that you pretended to care,

and your “I have to work late tonight”s,

and the yelling,

and the way that you ended everything we had.

The “it’s not you it’s me.”

That

Is not okay.

Conflict and Competition

March 29, 2018 by szachik@pvs.org 4 Comments

The world is strange–

full of constant conflict, be it subtle or forthright.

Why?

I would have it more “boring” and more peaceful, more joyous.

Conflict should be a principle of drama, not of life,

but I’ve come to the conclusion that will

never happen.

We’re not collaborative; we’re competitive.

I just wish I knew why.

We’re hairless apes, but even apes deserve better.

Nonetheless, conflict and competition,

be they cancers or creators,

are ever-present.

They’re part of human nature.

But I wish they weren’t.

O God, I wish they weren’t.
